Given the costs of formal testing, and waitlists, our team offer screening for ADHD, and can provide a provisional recommendations letter.
This may be helpful in the school setting, for other treatment providers and for the GP or Paediatrician.
It is important to be aware this screening has limitations.
Limitations of Screening: When we screen for a specific problem, it can indicate that an issue is present or not, but the screening does not allow us to fully examine a problem in depth. For example, an ADHD screen does not rule out cognitive impairments, or help us identify challenges such as dyslexia that may be co-occurring. These can only be assessed by administering cognitive assessments such as the WISC-5.
Screening does not benchmark academic performance - this would be done using the WIAT-4. This would be needed to diagnose a specific learning disability.
Funding bodies, educational settings and paediatricians may request or prefer a formal assessment that includes the WISC-5 and WIAT-4, in conjunction with a written report in order to apply for additional classroom support funding, or trial medications.
We note that these tests are not always required in the diagnosis of ADHD, but they are necessary for a comprehensive evaluation.
At Mindworx Psychology we firmly believe one test battery does not fit everyone. The Psychologist will recommend testing based on their initial assessment after meeting you/your child.
